House
I’ve recently had the opportunity to design a couple of houses on a tight peripolitanian site - the first design I’ve done since leaving university with my shiny degrees in design about 5 years ago.
I must say, I’ve really enjoyed the experience.
They’re not going to win any awards (wasn’t part of the brief) but both the client and I are more than happy.
Let’s see what the planners say.
It’s just a shame it’s not possible to do this for a living, really.
Is it really that hard to start a practice in Great Britain?
In the Netherlands it is also not that easy, but if you’re smart there are ways… Classmates of me, for instance, have started a practice after winning the Europan.
I’m very curious how it looks, Norman!

Well, I manage a living out of it, and have done for more years than I care to remember.

is there any chance of you posting images of your designs on this blog? i think all of your faithful readers would love to see some of your work.

Michiel, I’m afraid I’m not smart enough to win competitions and don’t much fancy the 95% of practice that is not about design. I’ve seen it and it sucks!
Alice, Good for you! Is it worth it? If you had your time again, would you still do what you’re doing?
Chris, No, sorry, I don’t think so. They are designed for a very specific place to a very specific brief and the page is not a context that would suit them. Besides, it’d be suicidal!

well, it think a little description of your design approach perhaps wouldn’t be that suicidal. :)
