Heroes Of Our Time: prss-release
I’ve noticed recently architecture blogs are changing.
Could be that the old stalwarts are getting bored of the sight of their own voice - this blogster certainly is. PartIV is way past its bedtime.
Could be that those who appear at the crest of a wave are a different breed to those who follow on after. For example, nowadays, I’m finding Lebbeus Woods’ and the FAT boys’ blogs the most interesting reads: Charles Holland’s Fantastic Journal and Sam Jacob’s Strange Harvest. I’m amazed they have the time to write so much, but maybe it’s because they don’t build very much. Or maybe they are ambidextrous - writing with their right hand while drawing with their left.
The future of publication is somewhere between the traditional journal and the blog.
Editors will morph into curators who pick and choose the best online features and package them up for you alongside specifically targetted adverts. Kind of like a personal shopper.
Everybody’s publications will be personalised, mixing your favourite curators’ choices from different fields.
prss-release is a step in that direction. Not only is it a clever name (pRSS - geddit?), but it’s actually a pretty good read and time saver. Each week, it collects the best 10 stories from archi-blogs around the world and pdfs them into a neatly readable format, emailing you when it’s cooked. It’s the brainchild of Marten Dashorst & Edwin Gardner, students at the Technical University in Delft, Holland.
So if you can’t be bothered to scan through all the blogging detritus of the world, just subscribe to their email and feel the difference. One thing’s for sure - you’ll never find any PartIV in it!
Thanks for the links Norman,
pRSS Release is truly a great idea for the readers but I wonder how happy are the writers of not even having a direct link to their pages to let people go a bit deeper into their thinking. I know that some publishers would not let such practice as agregating a whole article but just the tittle, a summary and a direct link to the rest.
